Lorna Lawton

Assistant - Wills and Probate

Lorna supports our Wills and Probate Team at our Newcastle branch, as well as carrying out other administrative duties for the office.

The assistant role Lorna undertakes sees her dealing with private client queries both over the phone and in the office, as well as making appointments and carrying out other secretarial duties in relation to our residential property transactions.

Lorna's Approach: Lorna has a very down to earth and friendly approach and is never short of a smile or a kind word. Given her previous role as a receptionist for an engineering firm, Lorna is able to provide cover for our Newcastle reception when needed and after many years working as a qualified child care provider, Lorna has the patience of a saint!

Lorna has a very warm and welcoming personality and will always do whatever she can to help Nowell Meller clients or point them in the right direction.

Personal Background: Lorna was born and raised in Stoke on Trent and joined Nowell Meller in November 2014.

In her spare time Lorna enjoys walking, eating out, going to the cinema and spending time with friends and family.

Career: After leaving school, Lorna obtained work experience at a firm of Solicitors in Hanley and then enrolled on a secretarial course at a local college. After successfully completing the course, she moved onto a receptionist position for a local engineering company where she worked for 11 years in between having her two children. After her second son was born, Lorna took a career break to care for her young family and also undertook some voluntary work at the local playgroup. This ultimately led to her getting a job as a Playgroup Assistant for 4 years where she gained an NVQ2 in Childcare. Following this she spent time as a Dinnertime Supervisor at a local School but was overjoyed to eventually return to a secretarial role.

Nowell Meller Journey: In October 2014 Lorna was asked if she wanted to provide temporary holiday cover for the Burslem office and she “jumped at the chance”. Lorna says “I enjoyed being back in an office environment and everybody was so lovely, that I asked to stay and do some voluntary work. This ultimately led to a permanent position at the Burslem Office. I started working in the Family Department for about a year and a half, then went on to assist the Commercial Department, then the Residential Property team and I’m now enjoying my role within Wills and Probate”.
