Adam is a qualified Solicitor and a member of the Commercial Property and Business Team working alongside Directors Steve Kirwan and Debby Hackney.
Adam can assist and advise in relation to:
- Landlord & Tenant matters - the negotiation of heads of terms, grant or taking of a commercial lease, dealing with requests for consent to assign a lease or grant a sub lease including preparation and service of Landlord & Tenant Act notices
- Sale or purchase of commercial property - including preparation of contract pack for properties being sold at auction, advice regarding capital allowance and stamp duty cases, requirements for properties being acquired or sold by pension or charitable trustees
- Business - sale and purchase of sole trader or partnership businesses
- Corporate - the sale or purchase of companies whether by shares or assets and can advise with regard to shareholder agreements, shareholder disputes or company secretarial services
- Commercial finance – where we act for a variety of traditional, commercial and private funders and investors
Clients: Adam and the team act for a number of charities, professional and faith organisations as well as a wide range of clients from manufacture, health, retail and service industries through to developers and investors.
Adam's Approach: He quickly gets to the heart of a problem, finds practical and workable solutions always liaising closely with our client's professional team including lenders, Accountants and IFA's; has a professional, polite and understanding manner and is used to working under pressure whilst keeping his cool.
Accreditations: Finalist for Keele University’s ‘volunteer of the year award’ in 2014; he was awarded the University’s ‘most engaged student of the year’ award in 2015; member of the University’s Student Staff Liaison Committee meeting with senior members of management to improve the course for all students at the Manchester campus.
Personal Background: Adam was born and raised in Stoke on Trent and continues to live in the area.
He is 6'5" and is somewhat of an expert in ducking under door frames!
On the rare occasions that Adam has some spare time, he enjoys entering pub quizzes and spending time with family and friends.
Qualifications: Degree - Adam graduated from Keele University in July 2015, after completing his LLB law degree with 2:1 honours. He studied a wide range of modules from Private Family Law to landlord and tenant Law, both of which have greatly informed his work at Nowell Meller.
Throughout his time at Keele University Adam secured a number of awards for his academic achievements and voluntary work, receiving the ‘module award’ for both the Private Family Law and Public Family Law modules. Module awards go to the highest performing student for each module.
Adam was a finalist for the university’s ‘volunteer of the year award’ in 2014 and was awarded the university’s ‘most engaged student of the year’ award in 2015 after receiving nominations from the Law school. The award is given to those who “go above and beyond in terms of their own learning and academia and who are a highly valued and reliable student at Keele”.
Adam represented Keele in a number of Law related competitions, including successfully securing a place in the semi-finals of a prestigious national mooting completion held by a barrister chambers specialising in Property Law. Adam has on a number of occasions been invited back to Keele as an alumni, attending the latest legal dining event and teaching current students how to moot. Adam was recently invited to watch the internal annual mooting completion - he had previously won this back in 2014.
LPC: Adam completed the legal practice course (part time weekends) at BPP University achieving a Commendation, gaining a Distinction in Property and a Distinction in his one of his chosen specialist electives Commercial Property. Demonstrating his commitment to ensuring a quality service, Adam is a member of the university’s Student Staff Liaison Committee and attends meetings with senior members of management to improve the course for all students at the Manchester campus.
Adam undertook his training contract with Nowell Meller qualifying as a Solicitor in March 2019.
Career: Adam already had a strong background in the legal sector before joining Nowell Meller, having volunteered at the local Citizens’ Advice Bureau for 12 months. Adam had also been a key member of Keele University’s CLOCK initiative, of which Nowell Meller is a partner. Having been a ‘legal companion’ for 2 of his 3 years at the University, Adam was asked to be an Ambassador for the initiative which led to him travelling to India to discuss an international roll out of the initiative with a university and to experience India’s legal system.
Nowell Meller Journey: Adam joined the Nowell Meller family team in August 2015, meeting clients and running a small number of divorce and children matters - drafting application forms, preparing court bundles, attending court to support legal counsel and carrying out administrative duties for the department. All of Adam's time within the family team helped to develop his communication skills in dealing with clients who are going through a stressful and emotional time.
Adam then joined the Commercial and Corporate Team where he continues with his colleagues to maintain high standards of client care. Adam often carries out specialist research and has built up his understanding in a number of complex areas, including the stamp duty regime, capital allowances, charity and pension scheme requirements.
