Lexcel Audit: Our Best Result To Date

Lexcel Audit: Our Best Result To Date

We’re incredibly proud to confirm that Nowell Meller has achieved its best Lexcel audit result to date, with no major or minor non-compliances identified during our recent full assessment.

Lexcel is The Law Society of England and Wales’ quality standard for legal practice management. Introduced in 1998, it recognises firms that demonstrate high standards across key areas of their business, including:

  • Client care
  • Risk management
  • People management
  • Structure and strategy
  • Financial management
  • Information management
  • File and case management

To maintain our accreditation, we undergo regular assessments each year, including a comprehensive full audit every three years. These assessments provide an opportunity to review our systems, procedures and working practices against the Lexcel standard, helping us identify strengths and continue improving the service we provide.

Our recent full audit went extremely well, and we’re delighted that the findings reflect the hard work, professionalism and commitment of our entire team.

What does this mean for our clients?

At Nowell Meller, providing excellent client care means more than delivering legal advice. It means having the right systems, people and processes in place to ensure our clients receive a professional, reliable and supportive service.

Our latest audit highlighted a number of strengths across the Practice, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining high standards and continually improving the client experience.

High standards of client care

Client care is one of our core values, and the audit confirmed that “a customer-focused culture is embedded across the Practice”.

We’re committed to ensuring our clients feel supported, informed, and confident throughout their dealings with us. Positive feedback and compliments received through Google Reviews and ReviewSolicitors provide further evidence of our commitment to delivering a high standard of service.

Effective financial management

Strong financial management helps us run our Practice efficiently and maintain effective oversight of the work we undertake. Our financial systems, regular matter reviews and real-time financial reporting support consistent working practices and timely billing.

The audit recognised that our financial-management systems and controls are “highly effective and well-embedded”, reflecting the robust processes in place across the firm.

Security and risk management

Protecting our clients’ information and managing risk responsibly are essential to the way we work.

Our Cyber Essentials accreditation demonstrates that appropriate controls are in place to protect our information and systems against common cyber threats. The audit also recognised our “practical, effective and comprehensive approach to operational risk management”, alongside positive findings regarding our client and matter risk-assessment procedures.

These measures form an important part of our commitment to handling client matters carefully and responsibly.

Consistent and well-supported service

Clear procedures, regular supervision and effective communication help our teams work consistently and manage matters responsibly. Established systems, regular reviews and ongoing communication support a structured approach across the Practice.

This means our clients benefit from a firm that takes its responsibilities seriously and places importance on maintaining consistent professional standards.

Investing in our people

We believe that delivering an excellent service starts with having knowledgeable, capable and well-supported people.

The audit highlighted our “high standards in training and developing its people”, supported by ongoing coaching, mentoring, regular meetings and individual development plans. We actively encourage our team to continue learning, build their expertise and progress in their careers.

We also recognise the importance of staff wellbeing. The audit acknowledged the “positive and open culture” within the Practice, contributing to “a cohesive and transparent working environment”.

Our commitment to mental health support, flexible working and career progression helps us create a workplace where people feel valued and supported. We believe this is an important foundation for delivering the best possible service to our clients.

A commitment to continuous improvement

Achieving our best audit result to date is something we’re extremely proud of, but we also recognise that maintaining high standards means continuing to evolve.

We regularly review our systems and working practices and continue to invest in our technology, marketing and internal resources. This includes refreshing our brand, improving access to internal guidance, and developing appropriate policies and controls for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

We’re committed to building on the strengths recognised in our audit and ensuring our approach continues to meet the needs of our clients and our profession.

A result we’re proud of

Receiving no major or minor non-compliances in our latest full Lexcel audit is a significant achievement for Nowell Meller and a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our entire team.

We’re proud of the standards we uphold, the culture we’ve built and the importance we place on looking after our clients and our people.

On behalf of everyone at Nowell Meller, we’d like to reaffirm our commitment to maintaining these high standards and continually improving the service we provide.

Thank you to our team for helping us achieve our best Lexcel result yet, and to our clients for continuing to place their trust in us.
