Solicitor - Wills and Probate

Stephanie works in the Wills and Probate department and is based at our Newcastle office. She works with Director Jane Matthewman and alongside Solicitor Jemma Blake in the Stafford Wills and Probate Team.

Stephanie specialises in general private client work including - Wills, Powers of Attorney, Estate Planning, Administration of Estates, Trusts and Court of Protection work.

Stephanie can advise in relation to:

  • Wills and Estate Planning - Stephanie will ascertain a full understanding of both your personal and your financial circumstances in order to provide relevant advice. Stephanie will assist you in putting your Wills into place and advise upon associated estate planning for the future.
  • Powers of Attorney - Stephanie will assist you with both general and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Stephanie can also assist in registering Enduring powers of Attorney with the Office of the Public Guardian. Nowell Meller do act as professional attorneys for clients where required and Stephanie is involved on a day to day basis with the running of these matters.
  • Administration of Estates - Stephanie deals with both taxable and non-taxable estates including reporting to HM Revenue and Customs, obtaining grants of probate (where the deceased left a Will) and Letters of Administration (where the deceased did not leave a Will). Stephanie will provide necessary advice to the personal representatives and assist with the full administration of the deceased’s estate.
  • Trusts - Stephanie can provide advice is respect of both Will Trusts and Lifetime Trusts. Stephanie will assist in preparing the relevant Trust Deeds and advise upon constituting the Trust.
  • Court of Protection - Stephanie will give advice to appointed and proposed Deputies. Director Jane Matthewman is authorised to act as Deputy and the firm looks after a number of patient affairs where they do not have sufficient capacity, Stephanie is involved in the day to day running of these matters.

Clients: Stephanie acts for individual clients in all capacities. She also works alongside other advisers including IFAs and Accountants to ensure that her clients have a joined-up approach to managing their personal affairs.

Stephanie's Approach: Stephanie is friendly, professional and approachable. She understands that her clients may often be vulnerable or facing a difficult time in their lives and is empathic towards this. Steph avoids using legal jargon when providing advice and always ensures that her clients are kept up to date as to the progress of their matters.

Accreditations: STEP Affiliate – currently undertaking STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates in order to obtain full STEP Membership.

Personal Background: Stephanie grew up in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire and continues to live in the Staffordshire area.

Steph enjoys socialising with family and friends and taking her dog out for walks in the countryside.

Pre Qualification and Career: Steph graduated from the University of Law incorporating the College of Law, Chester in 2014 and went on to study her LPC at the same place. In 2015 she started her training with a local firm of Solicitors and qualified into the Private Client department at a law firm in Nottingham in 2017, where she continued to work until joining Nowell Meller in 2020.
