Sarah Thomas


Sarah is a member of our Private Family Team working with Director and Head of Family Law, Carly Colclough.

Sarah is based at our location in Alsager and can advise in relation to:-

  • Divorce and Civil Partnership Dissolution- including fixed fee divorce packages and annulments
  • Financial matters – including property, lump sum, pension and income provisions on divorce
  • Children arrangements – including Child Arrangements Orders, Specific Issue Orders, Prohibited Steps Orders as well as permanent removal from the jurisdiction
  • Spousal and child maintenance - financial provision for you and your children on separation
  • Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements - where its crucial to take expert advice to secure more certainty around financial situations
  • Step-parent adoption – adopting your partner's children
  • Separation Agreements - helping separating couples to define how they intend to live apart, deal with finances and arrangements for children
  • Domestic Abuse – including Non-Molestation Injunction Orders and Occupation Orders
  • Change of Name – Adult and Child’s Change of Name Deeds
  • Mediation and Arbitration – Alternative Ways to Resolve Family Disputes

Clients: Sarah has acted for a wide range of clients covering a large area including high net worth clients and clients with more modest means.

In her previous practice Sarah also assisted in setting up legal clinics in the area where the practice was located and helped domestic abuse victims making it easier to access advice.

Sarah’s Approach: Sarah is described as empathetic, understanding and patient. Sarah understands that each person deals with the situations that arise in a different way and tailors her approach to the client’s needs whilst providing clear and strong advice. Sarah is particularly supportive when clients need to attend Court and tries to make them feel at ease as much as possible.

Accreditations: Sarah has been a member of the Law Society Advanced Family Panel for a number of years which recognises her expertise in children and financial matters.

Personal Background: Sarah grew up in Stoke on Trent before relocating to the West Midlands to attend University and complete her training contract. Sarah returned to Stoke on Trent 16 years ago and has been practising in Cheshire since then.

Sarah loves walking with her two dogs, going to yoga and spending time with family and friends.

Career: After leaving school Sarah attended Newcastle under Lyme college and then Wolverhampton University where she obtained a Degree in Law and Politics.

Since qualifying in 1999 Sarah has specialised in Family Law; firstly working in the West Midlands and then upon returning to the Stoke on Trent area in the Family department of 2 well know Cheshire based practices before joining Nowell Meller in November 2019.
