Solicitor - Commercial Property

Michelle is based at our Alsager office where she works alongside Director Debby Hackney, fellow Solicitor Adam Mayer and Caseworker Kelsey Jarvis-Dale.

Michelle qualified as a Solicitor in 2015.

Michelle can advise in relation to:

  • Charities – sale and purchase of property on behalf of charities – specialism in relation to transactions on behalf of the Methodist Church, including the sale of chapels that have a burial ground, ensuring that the same are compliant with Charity specific legislation
  • Buildings - sale and purchase of commercial buildings - whether owner, occupier or investment led, freehold and complex leasehold interests, offices, retail or industry; advising on capital allowances, VAT and other complex commercial principles
  • Commercial refinance - where the Commercial Team is recommended by lenders for liaising closely with relationship managers to achieve positive outcomes
  • Land - sale and purchase for commercial or residential development - this includes original acquisition and set up with Nowell Meller residential team dealing with plot sales
  • Development - including advice on pre-emption and overage agreements

Clients: The commercial team act for a wide range of clients from small local businesses through to larger corporations; from healthcare, through to engineering and manufacture; residential and commercial developers; acting for local charities, pension trustees and faith organisations.

Michelle's Approach: She has a friendly, approachable and calm manner. Michelle pays meticulous attention to detail and always strives to achieve the best possible outcome for the firm's clients. She takes time to understand a transaction in detail from the outset to meet timescales and avoid confusion; works closely with a client's professional team to keep everyone advised; undertakes site visits and happy to meet clients at their business premises if required.

Accreditations: Higher Rights Advocate.

Personal Background: Michelle was born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent and continues to live in the area.

Michelle has always enjoyed partaking in sport and in the past has played football, netball, hockey and badminton.   

When Michelle is not at work you will find her in the gym, where she enjoys weightlifting and circuit training.  Michelle also practices yoga, enjoys hiking and going for long walks in the countryside with her two border collies.

Pre Qualification: After completing her GCSE’s and A Levels, Michelle attended Staffordshire University where she gained a 2:1 LLB (Hons) Law Degree and then a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice with a Distinction. She started her legal career with a firm of Solicitors in Stafford, specialising in Criminal Law and Confiscation, Restraint and Asset forfeiture.   

In 2013 Michelle continued to work within this field but moved to a firm in London, whilst keeping a Stafford base.  

Michelle completed her training contract with the London firm and in 2015, she qualified as a Solicitor Advocate, with Higher Rights of Audience in the Criminal Courts.

Post Qualification: Michelle decided to change her area of specialism in 2017, when she joined Nowell Meller Solicitors. Michelle now enjoys working with local people, businesses and charities, and is always involved in some form of fundraising or charity work which allows her to give back to her local community.
