Solicitor - Wills and Probate

Jemma joined Nowell Meller in 2015 having qualified with another Staffordshire firm in 2007.

Jemma can advise in relation to:

  • Simple or complex Wills - and associated tax planning
  • Powers of Attorney - whether general or Lasting which includes all necessary notification, registration and post registration advice to Attorneys where needed.  Nowell Meller also act as professional attorneys for clients where required and Jemma is involved on a day to day basis with the running of these matters.  
  • Grant of Probate applications - and where necessary advice to Executors, dealing with beneficiary issues, administration of the estate including any property matters
  • Letters of Administration - where a person dies without leaving a Will including advice to the Administrators and administration of the estate
  • Court of Protection applications - and advice to Deputies; Director Jane Matthewman is authorised to act as Deputy and the firm looks after a number of patient affairs where they do not have sufficient capacity
  • Property aspects - that relate to any of the above.  Jemma has a background in land Law, both residential and commercials aspects and so this enhances the advice she can offer

Clients: Jemma acts for individual clients, whether they need advice in their capacity as Executor, Administrator, Beneficiary, Attorney or Deputy.  Many clients are dealing with these positions for the first time and need an experienced Solicitor to guide them through a variety of rules and regulations.

Jemma's Approach: Jemma has a sympathetic, caring and professional manner and understands the stressful time clients face when dealing with either a bereavement or a family member who has lost capacity, which is why she has the experience and empathy required to help with these particular family situations.

Accreditations: Having previously undertaken the Association Education course at the College of Law, London for the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists in 2012, Jemma is now an affiliate member of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).

 

Personal Background: Jemma was born and raised in Stafford and still enjoys living in the area.  She loves spending time with friends and family and finds Nowell Meller ethos of work - life balance refreshing.

Pre Qualification: Jemma completed her Law degree at Staffordshire University in 2002 and Legal Practice course at The College of Law, Chester in 2003 whilst working full time at a local Stafford Law firm.  Therefore, she had many years’ experience in the legal sector before reaching qualification.

Initially Jemma gained experience in residential and commercial conveyancing before widening her expertise to Probate, Powers of Attorney, Tax Planning, Wills, Trusts and mature client advice.
