We recently had the privilege of spending two mornings at Hillside Primary School in Stoke-on-Trent, inspiring children from Years 1 to 6 during their Careers Week.
Louise Elliott and Carly Colclough spoke to students about what life is like as a Solicitor, the journey's they took to become qualified and even gave students a little taste with mini court room debates. Each legal team gave really well thought through arguments for and against on some hot topics. Some examples of the decisions made were:
- Year 5 gave the verdict that teachers should not be replaced by computers.
- Year 2 decided children should not be able to vote.
- Year 6 decided children should not be allowed on social media
Last year, Carly Colclough and Holly Docherty followed the same model at St Leonard's Primary School in Stafford and it is proving a popular session. Holly also explained the non-legal roles within law firms and gave pupils an insight of the less traditional routes they can take.
We are passionate about getting involved with our local community, and it is great to see local schools inspiring future generations of the legal profession!
We look forward to doing more community work of this nature in future!
