Community support over Christmas 2021

Community Support over Christmas 2021

Here at Nowell Meller, the thing that drives everything we do is Care. Caring for ourselves, each other, our clients and the Community.

Over the festive period, we decided to put some extra focus on our local communities.

We wanted to start by saying thank you to all of the incredible people who work or volunteer at local charities and organisations that we have been involved with. Without them, our communities wouldn’t be the same.

We worked in partnership with LoveClay to create handmade Christmas tree decorations that were given to these people as a small way of saying thank you for the incredible work they do.

These charities and organisations included;

  • Childhood Cancer Parents Alliance
  • A Child of Mine
  • Alice Charity
  • Katharine House Hospice
  • Swan Bank
  • Number 11
  • Saltbox
  • The Gingerbread Centre
  • Donna Louise Children’s Hospice
  • Douglas Macmillan Hospice
  • King Street Congregational Church
  • Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • Terrible Titties
  • Support Staffordshire
  • Number 11
  • Wingate Centre
  • Alsager Animals in Need
  • Staffordshire Women’s Aid
  • House of Bread
  • Alsager Cancer Support
  • Alsager Community Support Centre
  • St Giles Hospice

“Thank you so much for the generous donation of handmade Christmas decorations to The Gingerbread Centre. They are fantastic and we really do appreciate your support. It looks like we will be supporting 29 families in our temporary accommodation over Christmas, so your kind donation will add a little brightness at what is a difficult time.”

Chris Belyavin, Gingerbread Centre

“We were delighted to receive this amazing Christmas card with beautiful words and Christmas decorations. Thank you so much for your support in 2021”

Rachael Olley, CCPA

“What beautiful decorations! They certainly put a smile on our faces during a very busy time for our charity. The decorations looked beautiful on our Christmas tree in our family support room.Thank you for your continued support.”

Other community support

We then decided to see how we could further support vulnerable people in our Communities. As members of the Fortunate 500 scheme, we continued to support The Alice Charity who help to move families in crisis forward from a dark place to a brighter future. We donated towards their Christmas appeal, we collected and purchased Christmas presents for vulnerable teenagers, and also donated towards a new bed and linen for a vulnerable child.

We made a donation to SwanBank, a Methodist church that is very close to our hearts, to support vulnerable people in Burslem.

“Can I just say thank you to Nowell Mellor for the £100 donation which is gratefully received. This will be used to help us feed those in the community this Christmas Day who are isolated due to illness, food poverty or age so they know they are not forgotten, but are cared for.”

Alison Lynley, SwanBank Church

Luosko German Shepherd Dog Rescue helps stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs that, through no fault of their own, need a second chance - irrespective of their age, or medical conditions they may have. They also help owners in crisis who need to surrender their dogs, giving them peace of mind that their dogs will be re-homed responsibly. We supported them by donating lots of tasty dog treats for the dogs in their care to enjoy.

We also donated towards the amazing work the Alsager Community Support Centre do by providing a free, local and confidential service for people in any kind of need in Alsager and surrounding areas. You can read more about their services and our other support at
