Government commits to 6th April for introduction of Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act

In the form of a response to a Parliamentary question, Ministers have today announced that the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 will come into force on 6th April 2022. This has been known to many as the “No Fault Divorce Bill” and will allow married couples to divorce without assigning blame.

Director and Head of Family Law, Carly Colclough, comments;  “This is a long awaited date for many people and signals a very positive change for separating families.  The date has been a moving target for a long time now and to have a date fixed on parliamentary record for the first  time is a huge step forward.   The Family Team at Nowell Meller are committed to acting in a way which is non-confrontational and does not cause undue distress to families going through a separation wherever we possibly can and so we very much welcome the news this week.”
