Time and Tide Service

Overview

Most people now realise that our society is changing and that we are living longer. Old age brings with it a particular range of concerns and problems. In recognition of this, we have drawn on the experience of several members of our firm to create a team specialising in advice and services for our Time and Tide Clients and their families.

There are various matters which tend to affect older clients in particular and we are able to offer a very personal service aimed to give you and your family peace of mind so that you can look forward to the future with confidence. Members of the team have a wide range of expertise and can give straightforward advice and practical help with many issues - financial as well as legal. There are many ways we can help, including:

Wills
Your Will might be the most important document you sign. By making a Will you keep control of your estate rather than letting the Government decide what happens on your behalf. Even if you have already made a Will, it's well worth reviewing it with us regularly to make sure it's up-to-date. Making or updating a Will is not expensive and it will give you peace of mind. For more details see our information sheet on Wills

Enduring Powers of Attorney and Receivership
People who are unable to manage their own affairs may have appointed an attorney under the terms of an Enduring Power of Attorney to act for them following their incapacity. If they have not done so, then an application must be made for the appointment of a Receiver to the Court of Protection. You can rely on our understanding, integrity and long experience in these delicate matters. For more details see our information sheet on Enduring Powers of Attorney

Financial Security
Many retired people rely on investment income - which can be a worry, particularly in inflationary times. We can put you in touch with reliable Independent Financial Advisors to take this burden off your shoulders with expert advice and investment management. This can include not only pensions, but annuities, life assurance, nursing home fees and capital release plans. This service is tailored to your wishes and circumstances, taking into account the income or capital growth you require, how much risk - if any - you are prepared to take, and your tax position.

Help with Benefits
Many people do not receive benefits to which they are entitled. We are familiar with all the grants and allowances available to older people and their carers, and can help you claim your rights.

Dealing with Financial Paperwork
We can ensure your financial affairs run smoothly by monitoring bank accounts and dealing with the payment of bills, Tax Returns and other paperwork. We can also act under Powers of Attorney if required.

Planning Ahead
Should you or one of your relatives ever become unable to cope at home, you will find our help invaluable. We have firsthand knowledge of many of the homes for the elderly in the area, where we regularly visit our clients, not only to discuss their legal needs but also to help with any other problems.

Remember, it is never too early to plan for the future

Don't leave it too late
We are often approached by concerned family members following a sudden illness, accident or other event. We are very often able to help but it is sometimes too late. We very much urge our clients to be proactive and to take early action to put their affairs in order. If necessary, we can refer you to other specialists, for example accountants or independent financial advisers. We will work with those professionals to achieve your aims.

Home visits
We recognise that our older clients may not be in a position to visit us at our offices. By prior arrangement, we can meet with clients at home or even at hospital.

NOTE: The above is intended as a general guide for your information. It is NOT intended as a substitute for proper legal advice. Each case is different and advice cannot be given without a proper analysis of your own circumstances.
